Judging Food By Its Cover – Why Food Packaging is so Important!

Food Packaging – The Difference Between Tempting and Terrible!

Next time you are in supermarket pop you head into the confectionery isle. Chances are the shelves will be overflowing with color – but why is this the case? The simple answer to this is because of food packaging. The confectionery industry is a cutthroat industry and if you don’t have brightly colored food packaging your product is going to fade away.

This is a great example of why food packaging is so important. Having the best tasting food in the world is not enough, unless it is packaged in an appealing manner, very few people will actually buy it. If you want to make sure people buy your food to find out that it does taste great, then you’ll have to organize some good food packaging.

You can do more than just make you product present well. Food products usually list many of the benefits of that product on the packaging. Many add things like ‘baked not fried’ or ‘a great source of protein’. Don’t get left behind, tell your potential customers why your product is more beneficial than your competitors.

Benefits are not the only reason to have food packaging. Many countries actually have legal requirements for food packaging. Food content, ingredients and nutritional facts all need to be listed on the food packaging if it is to be sold in stores. Also all warnings about the food contained within should be printed on the packaging. This allows people who have specific allergies or dietary requirements to make decisions based off the food content.

Food packaging also offers the contents protection from the outside world. The food can then be safely stacked and transported while maintaining its shape and form. This preserves the appearance of the food so that it will hold its appeal once its finally at supermarkets.

Finally, you have to consider the ideal material for your food packaging. Is it fit to be stored in boxes or does it need an airtight plastic bag? What kind of storage conditions does it need? Kept in the cold or heat? Out of direct sunlight?

Food packaging is key to making sure your food arrives intact and presentable at the end of the line which is why you need to be extra careful when selecting the right packaging.
